ii89 free pokies: how demo play works and where to begin

Free pokies and free slots at ii89, explained

Free pokies at ii89 are real lobby games played in demo mode, with practice credit in place of money. Free slots is the same idea under its international name: you spin the actual game, with its paytable and features, and nothing you stake or win is real. The guide to online pokies by type explains how those games pay.

That last part is the key rule. Demo credits have no cash value, so a demo win can never be withdrawn and a demo loss costs you nothing. Treat it as a test drive of the game, not a way to make money.

What a demo can tell you

• How the game pays: lines, ways or clusters.
• What starts the bonus round and what it looks like.
• Roughly how often small wins arrive, and how long the gaps feel.
• Whether you actually like the theme, sound and pace.

What a demo can't tell you

• Whether your next paid session will win or lose.
• The game's RTP: that only shows over a huge number of spins.
• How it feels to lose real money, which is the part worth preparing for.

Starting a demo at ii89 in five steps

Demo play at ii89 is free after you log in. There is no deposit to make and no offer to claim.

1. Sign up with your mobile number and details, then enter the code ii89 sends by SMS or WhatsApp.
2. Log in through your browser, your home-screen shortcut or the ii89 app.
3. Pick a studio or search for a title. The ii89 lobby has games from 46 studios, so a search saves time.
4. Open the game in demo mode instead of real-money mode.
5. Confirm the balance is practice credit before you press spin.

Microgaming titles are the exception. They have no demo version at ii89 and can only be played for real money, so look for another game if you want to practise.

Reading the demo screen

Before you start spinning, find three things. The balance shows the practice credit, so you can tell it apart from your real balance later. The stake control sets the bet per spin; leave it at the level you would use with real money. The info or paytable button explains every symbol and feature, and it is where you will find a game's RTP when we don't list one below.

Free Aristocrat pokies at ii89

If you are searching for free Aristocrat pokies, ii89 carries a set of the studio's online classics, and you can try them in demo first. Aristocrat built its name on Australian pub and club machines, and these titles keep that simple, familiar style.

Choy Sun Doa is the one to give the most demo time. When its free games start, you choose one of five options that trade the number of spins against the size of the multipliers, and only repeated tries show you which trade you prefer. Geisha's gamble feature is the other thing worth testing for free: decide in demo whether you would ever risk a win on it, before real money is involved.

Queen of the Nile and 50 Lions differ mainly in their lines. Queen of the Nile works on a 5×3 board with fixed lines, while 50 Lions spreads its wins over 50 lines, which often means more frequent, smaller hits. Dragon Emperor sits between them: it pays on 243 ways rather than lines, so any matching symbols on neighbouring reels from the left count, and its one feature is a round of free spins. See the ii89 Aristocrat guide for the rest of the studio's games.

Other free pokies worth a demo at ii89

Outside Aristocrat, the games below show three very different ways a pokie can pay. Trying one of each in demo is a fast way to find the style you enjoy.

Multiplier games

Gates of Olympus and Sugar Rush both rely on multipliers that can grow during a bonus round, and both are high volatility. In demo you will see long runs of small or no wins, then the occasional large one. That is exactly the pattern to understand before staking real money on them.

Hold and Win games

Black Wolf and 3 China Pots lock special symbols on the reels and give you respins to add more. The rules on what resets the respins and what each pot does take a few rounds to learn, so they are well suited to free play.

Simple classics

Mighty Sevens and Funky Monkey are close to old-style machines: few lines, few features and quick spins. They are a good first demo if you have never played a pokie, because almost everything that happens is visible on the reels. The Pragmatic Play and JILI guides list more titles from those studios.

A 15-minute plan for your first free pokie

Free pokies are easy to play mindlessly. A short plan makes the session worth more than the spins:

1. Minutes 1 to 3: the paytable. Find the top-paying symbol, the wild, the scatter and what starts the bonus. Note whether the game pays on lines, ways or clusters.
2. Minutes 4 to 10: normal spins. Play at the stake you would really use. Keep a rough count of how many spins pass between wins that are bigger than your stake.
3. Minutes 11 to 14: the feature. If the bonus round arrives, watch what it pays compared with what you spent waiting for it. If it doesn't arrive, that is useful too: some games make you wait a long time.
4. Minute 15: decide. Did you enjoy it? Would the swings you saw be comfortable with your own money? If not, try a game with a different style rather than a bigger stake.

Why a higher RTP isn't the whole story

Funky Monkey's 98.00% is higher than Queen of the Nile's 94.88%, but over a single session the difference is tiny next to the game's ups and downs. Volatility, features and how much you enjoy a game matter more in the short run. Use RTP to compare similar games, and use the demo to judge everything else.

Free pokies on your phone: app, browser or home screen

ii89 gives you three ways to play free pokies on a phone, and the demo works the same in each:

• The ii89 app for iPhone and Android, if you prefer an installed app.
• Your phone's browser, with nothing to install.
• A home-screen shortcut: in Safari, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen; in Chrome on Android, open the menu and choose Add to Home screen.

Whichever you use, log in with the same mobile number. Games built for wide screens may be easier to read with the phone turned sideways, and a phone makes it easy to keep playing, so set a time limit for demo sessions too.

Ready for real money? A quick test

Switching from free pokies to real money is a choice, not a next step you have to take. Before you do, answer these honestly:

1. Could you explain the game's bonus round to a friend?
2. Have you seen a demo balance drop quickly, and would that be fine with real money?
3. Have you set an amount for the session that you can afford to lose?
4. Will you stop at that amount, even part-way through a feature?

If every answer is yes, real-money play at ii89 starts with an AU$10 deposit. Withdrawals from AU$30 are paid to PayID, Skrill, Neteller or Payz within 5 minutes, and you don't need your own PayID to deposit. PayID pokies at ii89 shows how to take a demo game to a first PayID deposit. The ii89 real money pokies guide covers choosing a stake and a game for your first paid session.

Looking for free credit instead?

Free credit is not demo play. It is a promotion that adds credit you can play on real games, while a demo only ever uses practice credit. The free credit offers are listed in the ii89 no deposit bonus section of the promotions page.

Whether you play free or for real, set your limits first. The responsible gambling page lists free, confidential support.
